Enterprise Report Output Management and Report Viewer

As the demand to access information continues to grow, a company’s ability to deliver output to end users becomes more critical. SEA meets this demand with the TRMS NET/WEB output management product.

TRMS NET/WEB is the integrated report management system for the viewing, distribution, archival/retrieval and printing of output and end user reports. The TRMS output management and report viewer guarantees to provide significant savings by reducing or eliminating the need to print output. TRMS delivers enterprise wide access to output through a variety of interfaces including ISPF, CICS, VTAM, Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

TRMS - Overview of our Output Management and Report Viewer Solutions

The Total Report Management Solution, or TRMS (pronounced "trims"), is a powerful and flexible output management and report viewer system for the OS/390, zOS and VSE/ESA operating systems. TRMS completely automates report output management and distribution. TRMS output management offers control over the bundling, distribution, on-screen viewing, archival, and printing of critical production reports and listings. With the TRMS report viewer and output management tool it is possible to trigger, break, bundle, and distribute a high volume of output and monitor report distribution.

Because the TRMS system has extensive user-defined options, the ability exists to distribute and retrieve reports throughout the mainframe environment easily, efficiently, and effectively, and still maintain a strict level of security. TRMS offers the flexibility to change the distribution as requirements change. In addition, TRMS automatically and reliably tracks report distribution functions.

Rather than printing every report in the job stream for manual distribution, the TRMS report viewer and output management system captures all reports assigned to its accumulation class(es) from JES (both JES2 and JES3) or POWER and stores each report, as a report image, in the TRMS dynamically reusable VSAM database. It then distributes reports, or selected portions of reports, based on sophisticated hierarchical user-defined criteria. However, irrespective of how the distribution is subdivided, only one copy of the report resides in the database.

In summary, TRMS provides a proven, cost-effective solution to the vital process of report output management.

Internet Access to Reports

TRMS NET WEB provides WEB Access to output and end user reports across the Enterprise. Multiple databases can be browsed from OS/390, Windows, NT, UNIX, LINUX, SUN or from any platform that supports Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. TRMS NET/WEB provides a valuable and easy to implement method for accessing output from virtually anywhere.

TRMS WEB supports Microsoft IIS (ASP), IBM Web Sphere, Netscape, Tomcat and Apache Application Web Servers on various platforms. Web browser capabilities include support for HTML, PDF AFP, MS Word and MS Excel.

Capabilities of TRMS output management

  • Report Viewer
  • Creation of a distribution database consisting of user-defined criteria to trigger, break, bundle, and distribute reports to selected users and locations.
  • Store reports, as report images, in a dynamically reusable VSAM database created and maintained by TRMS. TRMS compresses all data for efficient use of system resources.
  • Administer and control access to all reports using passwords, multiple levels of security, (internal or external security products), and data encryption.
  • Browse and view on-screen any part of a report specified...a complete report, subsections of a report, selected pages, or lines.
  • Archive any reports to Tape, Disk, Optical or other devices that support BSAM or OAM, and easily restore any archived report to the TRMS database.
  • Define and refer to recipients and reports using short or long identification names, and refer to them using generic search criteria such as common destination and departments.
  • Trigger reports for distribution based on time of day, date, day of week, a holiday calendar, whether or not other reports have accumulated, and elapsed time since the first report starts a bundle.
  • Distribute reports for online browsing, on paper, tape, DASD or microfiche.
  • Monitor distribution of all reports online and printed reports.
  • Store reports online in the TRMS database for a user-specified period of time, or for a number of cycles, definable at the Report level.
  • TRMS has extensive internal security. Multiple levels of security help control the flow of information. All users are associated with Security Group names, which delimit access to reports. For MVS, TRMS also interfaces to external data security packages such as RACF, ACF2, and TOP-SECRET. This interface permits total access control of all TRMS resources using the data security package of the installation.
  • Efficient use of system resources. Take effective control over what is stored in the system, where it is stored, and how long it is stored. TRMS fully compresses all reports in its dynamically reusable VSAM database, using state-of-the-art techniques. There is never more than one copy of a report stored in the TRMS database at one time, no matter how the report is broken down or duplicated for distribution.
  • Flexibility. Output management with TRMS is designed for the real world of data processing, where things change constantly. TRMS allows total flexibility along all lines of report management. The capability exists to produce, in any combination, multiple versions of reports and create any combination of distributions.
